Scott Mulvahill Named September “Best Vocalist Of The Month” With His Song "I Will Stand”
Scott Mulvahill
Scott Mulvahill, a promising pop singer/songwriter based in Nashville, TN, has won the September SingerUniverse “Best Vocalist Of The Month” Competition, for his performance of his song “I Will Stand” (co-written by Paul Allen). "I Will Stand" is included on Mulvahill's 5-song EP, Share The Sky, which he released independently in July (2012).
“I Will Stand” is acoustic guitar-based ballad which has a sincere, heartfelt lyric theme. The song mostly has an intimate, hymn-like music arrangement, with drums, bass and keyboards added in certain spots. "I Will Stand" provides an excellent showcase for Mulvahill's strong, expressive vocal performance. This song was adeptly produced by Jacob Schrodt, who played drums on this recording. Also featured is Mulvahill on acoustic guitar, Nathan Dugger on lead guitar and Kyle Stallons on keyboards.
Mulvahill grew up in Houston, TX, where he started to play bass guitar at age 14, and later learned to play jazz bass, guitar and piano. He was inspired early on by listening to such favorite artists as Paul Simon (particularly the Graceland album), James Taylor and Jeff Buckley. By age 19 he was writing songs and singing. For college, Mulvahill attended University of North Texas in Denton, TX, where he subsequently earned a B.A. Degree in Music (studying jazz bass). He also recorded his first album (which was self-titled). "I learned a lot about how to make a record--it was an educational experience putting the album together," he said.
After graduating from college, Mulvahill moved to Nashville. "I knew there would be more opportunities (in music) if I moved to Nashville," he said. Notably, Mulvahill started making a living as a bass player, and he is now a member of Ricky Skaggs' Kentucky Thunder touring band.

For his latest EP project, Mulvahill knew he would need to raise money to make a very professional, polished recording. Impressively, he was able to raise $8,000 via his Kickstarter campaign. Mulvahill wrote "I Will Stand" and several other songs in late 2011, and then recorded his Share The Sky EP earlier this year. "I'm proud of the new EP; it's getting a great response and it's on iTunes," he said.
Currently, Mulvahill is busy touring nationwide with Ricky Skaggs (he's played onstage with Alison Krauss and Barry Gibb), and he has also performed his own shows (solo and with a band) in Atlanta, Birmingham, Louisville, Houston and Dallas.
"I'm excited about my new EP, and performing these songs live," said Mulvahill. "I'm passionate about writing songs and singing. For me, singing is an extension of the songwriting." Clearly, Mulvahill has his career moving in the right direction; he is looking for a good manager and booking agent to help build his career further.
