KG Named August “Best Vocalist Of The Month” With Her Song
“In Love”
By Dale Kawashima
KG, an impressive R&B/pop singer & writer based in Toronto, ON, Canada, has won the August SingerUniverse “Best Vocalist Of The Month”
Competition, for her performance of her song “In Love.” This song is featured
on her new six-song EP called The Art Of Love, which she is releasing
independently this October.
KG
“In Love” is a soulful ballad which provides an excellent
showcase for KG’s powerful vocal performance. In addition to her stirring lead
vocals, KG adds multi-layered backing vocals to create a strong, overall vocal
presentation. Notably, KG also produced this recording (utilizing her ProTools
setup), and she played all the instruments (keyboard, guitar, programming) on
this cut.
KG (whose full name is Kgomotso Tsatsi) is 21, and she was
born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. She was inspired early on by
listening to Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson, and she started taking piano
lessons when she was five. When KG was 13, she began writing songs with her
keyboard, and at age 15, she taught herself to play guitar. Notably, when she
was 16 (in 2003), KG entered the South African Idol competition, and she
made the finals, finishing in the top six.
Following high school, KG traveled with her family abroad (including
several months living in Argentina), before settling in Ontario, Canada. She then attended the University of Waterloo for two years, which is west of Toronto. And now, to further her music business education, she will be attending The
Harris Institute in Toronto.
KG
Since moving to Canada, KG has entered and fared well in
regional talent contests and performed at high-profile music events. She
participated in the USA World Showcase, the Honey Jam showcase at the Mod Club
in Toronto, and the Waterloo Idol contest. KG also won “The Beat” radio
contest with her song “Buggin’,” and she has received a FACTOR recording grant
from the Canadian government.
With her EP release The Art Of Love coming out in October,
KG should continue to build upon her reputation as a promising vocalist and
songwriter. ‘I’m excited about my new EP, and I’m looking forward to releasing
a full album in 2009,” said KG. “I’m also performing shows in Toronto (solo and
with a band), and I want to organize a tour throughout Canada.”
